Following her death on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, the late singer Onyeka Onwenu’s sons, Abraham and Tijani Ogunlende, have spoken out.
In a statement made public on Wednesday, July 31, they disclosed that following a performance, she was taken to the hospital and, despite the best efforts of the medical staff, she died.
They also thanked Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, and Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, for their support.
They declared: “My brother and I would want to announce the loss of our mother, the cherished Onyeka Onwenu, with painful hearts. She died in Lagos, Nigeria, last night, Tuesday, July 30, 2024.
After an incredible final performance, she was taken to the hospital and physicians tried their hardest to save her life. She regrettably passed away.

We miss and adore her very much.
