Democratic leaders, activists, and funders who saw no way to win with Biden on the ticket launched a weeks-long lobbying campaign that ultimately resulted in the decision. Concerns over his age and capacity to serve an additional four years have been raised by his recent debate performance and public appearances.
A major development in the election season is Biden’s intention to resign while serving as president. It comes after a turbulent few weeks in American politics, which included an attempt on Trump’s life at a Pennsylvania campaign rally.
It has been an exceptionally turbulent election season for both candidates; following President Biden’s decision to withdraw from the Democratic nomination, the delegates who had previously pledged to support him are now free to vote for a different candidate.
This means that roughly 95% of delegates who had committed to support Biden following his success in the Democratic primaries can now select an alternative nominee. Biden made this decision after attempting to salvage his candidacy following a disastrous debate performance.
